International Support for Lebanon: Ways Forward

Immediately after the explosion in the port of Beirut on the 4th of August, questions arose about what funding and aid to Lebanon should look like, how transparency of and accountability for funding streams can be ensured, how the essential role and sustainability of local actors can be guaranteed, and how to ensure that the funding serves those people that are in the highest need of assistance. 

Besides responding to the urgent needs of residents of the affected areas, Basmeh & Zeitooneh has been in continuous dialogue with donors, policymakers and other stakeholders about the nature of and conditions for the humanitarian and longer-term response in the aftermath of the blast. To that end, Basmeh & Zeitooneh and partners developed a set of 11 recommendations, which it shared with relevant stakeholders.
