A year on from the blast that devastated large parts of Beirut, the ILO is working to help small businesses across the Lebanese capital affected by the explosion. Many were already struggling to survive due to COVID-19 anti-infection measures and the ongoing economic and political crisis in the country.

This report aims to give a voice to those directly and indirectly affected by the overarching system of military
conscription in Syria. Military conscription is an instrument feared by many Syrians today who live in Syria, and many who cannot go back to Syria because they have fled this service. It is therefore important to remember that military
conscription needs to be more widely considered in the conversation on the safety and dignity of the return process for refugees.”
